About This Item
Germany, 1701. Loose Sheets. Good. Ten Individual original pages of an early 18th century printing of an Antiphonarium which became the standard version for Catholic families in Germany (accompanied by a photo-copy of the cover page of the original complete volume with handwritten note about original owner). These pages appear to be from a copy owned or used by Josephus Annegarm who was a professor of church history, theologian and popular writer. His UNIVERSAL HISTORY (in 8 volumes - 1827) was written primarily for Catholic youth and became a standard work for Catholic families in Germany. An Antiphonary, Antiphonal, "Antiphony" or Antiphoner (Latin antiphonarium, antiphonarius, antiphonarius liber, antiphonale; Greek 'antÃphonon, antiphon, antiphone, anthem) is one of the liturgical books intended for use in choro (i. e. in the liturgical choir), and originally characterized, as its name implies, by the assignment to it principally of the antiphons used in various parts of the Roman liturgy. In current usage Antiphoner refers more narrowly to books containing the chants for the Divine Office in distinction to the Gradual (Graduale or more rarely antiphonarium Missarum), which contains the antiphons used for the Mass.[1].
