London: Printed By W.Tooke for the Editor and Sold By J.Wilkie, 1767. Book. Good. Full-Leather. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. First published 1631. Full leather binding. Spine has been rebacked with five raised bands and titles in gilt on label within one of the compartments. Condition: Good, covers are rubbed around edges with general shelfwear and some sunning and staining. Binding sound. Bookplate of Lord Walsingham bearing the motto " Excitari non Hebescere" on front pastedown. Text lightly browned throughout with occasional foxing. Some pages have waterstaining to the very edges. 608pp. including index. Engraved portrait frontispiece of John Weever. Five engraved plates of armorial monuments lettered A-E. Full title reads thus: Antient Funeral Monuments of Great-Britain, Ireland, and the Islands Adjacent. With the dissolved monasteries therein contained; their founders, and what eminent persons have been therein interred. As also , the death and burial of certain of the Blood-royal, nobility and gentry of these kingdoms, entombed in foreign nations. Intermixed and illustrated with variety of historical observations, annotations, and brief notes; extracted out of approved authors, infallible records, leidger books, charters, rolls, old manuscripts and the collections of judicious antiquaries. Whereunto is prefixed, a discourse on funeral monuments, containing an account of the foundation and fall of religious houses - of religious orders - of the ecclesiastical state of England - and other occurrences touched upon throughout the work. .
