About This Item

Washington DC: Government Printing Office (GPO), 1886. Hardcover. Good. George Catlin. Heavy green cloth hardcover, a professionally rebound copy of the original printing with reinforced hinges and stitched text block bind. A good copy of this massive volume that collects the general report through the first 264 pp, and then moves into the magical assessment of the George Catlin Indian Gallery including 939 pp of plates, 3 small fold out maps and 2 wall map foldouts on reinforced paper. Noted flaws: Bending at the top portion of the spine column - binding cloth is the only part impacted - text and stitchery are intact and solid. Notation in pencil at the top of the front free-endpaper, "AM/BS/SS Donaldson" along with a price erasure. Damp staining along the front edge of the first sections - no mold or mustiness. Minor cover soil and some thumbing at the edges of the text block. An amazing look at the Catlin collection along with extracts of the writings of George Catlin. At 6lbs (2.72kg) and a full 4.5in (11.43cm) thick, comprised of more than 1200 pages, this volume will be shipped securely in a box and is available only for domestic shipping.
