About This Item
Published by A.H. Coventry, Coggeshall and John Russell Smith, London, 1863, 1st edition. Brown cloth boards with blind stamped decorations to front and rear boards. Gilt lettering to spine, no dustwrapper. 7.25ins x 5ins, viii, 304pp plus frontis and 8pp steel plate illustrations as listed. Armorial bookplate of Cornelius Walford to front pastedown. also a long handwritten note referring to the Walford family and signed Walford to the verso of the front free endpaper. Different owners signature (dated 1863) to verso of frontis. Very small brown mark to one plate, else contents VG. Externally, the spine appears to have been repaired at some point and the gilt lettering is rather dull, so G+.
