An unblemished first Printing of the First Edition in a Fine dust-jacket, signed by author Allen Drury on the front flyleaf; Anna Hastings was born in 1811 in Kentucky, the youngest of eight children. In 1833, she married William Hastings, a lawyer, and they moved to Washington, D.C. Hastings started working as a reporter for the Daily National Intelligencer in 1835. She was the first woman to hold a full-time journalism position in the U.S. She was also the first woman to be elected to the Washington Press Club.
