About This Item

Port Elizabeth: Mohair Board of South Africa, 1985 Author's preface: Angora goat farming and mohair production constitute an important part of agricultural production in South Africa, particularly in the Eastern Cape. Since the first edition of this book was published, the growth of the industry both locally and abroad stimulated tremendous interest in literature on the Angora goat and its products. As a result, the first edition was soon sold out while there was still a great demand for the book. In addition, new findings and further information became available. For these reasons it was decided to publish a revised edition. Several people serving the Angora goat and mohair industry con tributed their knowledge and we wish to acknowledge with thanks the contributions of the following: Dr P Botha, Senior Agricultural Researcher, Pasture Science, Karoo Region, Middelburg C.P. Mr NJ Dorfling - Prominent Angora goat farmer, Uitenhage. Mr G Erasmus - Chief, South African Fleece Testing Centre, Mid delburg, C.P. Mr M A Strydom - South African Wool and Textile Research Institute of the CSIR. Mr DS Uys - Manager, Mohair Board. Dr EM van Tonder - Chief, Veterinary Laboratory of the Karoo Region, Middelburg C.P. We are also indebted to the Department of Agriculture and Water Affairs and the Mohair Board for their assistance with regard to facilities and personnel, and in particular to Mr AJ du Plessis and Mrs E.D Bailey for their invaluable contribution in the preparation of the manuscript. We trust that this book will be of great value in the promotion of the Angora goat and its fleece. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 251 pages plus Abbreviations and Index.
