Mortality's Alchemist features a selection of embroidered and hand-blown glass works made between 2006 and 2008. This beautiful and barbed collection of work provides insight into Filomeno's poetic creative vision where hints of life and overtones of death coexist.Filomeno is an artist par excellence of the 21st century. His oeuvre communicates an emotional awareness, intimacy and immediacy that rarely comes together so effectively in art. He creates works that transport us to another realm. His choice of delicate materials (hand-blown glass and embroidery in this exhibition) further accentuates overtures to the ephemeral gifts of life. Additionally, his deft blending of fractured body parts shown alongside ominous sparkling landscapes provides viewers with a melancholy space for contemplation of larger human issues. Mortality's Alchemist premiered at the Pinnacle Gallery (Jan. 7-March 15,2009) in Savannah and subsequently traveled to the Trois Gallery in Atlanta (March 23-May 31, 2009) as part of SCAD's 30-year anniversary season. Filomeno's work complements and expands SCAD's exhibitions program that is committed to artistic diversity, innovation and originality, and it provides an educational forum for current trends in contemporary art.
