About This Item

New York: Nesor Publishing Co, 1934. Good+ (offset on front and back free endpaper from something laid in, green covers are sunned at spine bottom and top and lightly along edges; dusty top page edges; small white spot on rear cover; interior clean and tight) in chipped and sunned dust jacket (now looking more presentable in a Brodart protective cover). What did "sophisticated" American readers find amusing in 1934? From the preface: "I would not recommend the following stories to unsophisticated youngsters, but the intelligent adult, unless he or she be a prude, will most likely enjoy some of the stories that follow." One of the shorter examples: "The harlot's prayer: Oh, Blessed Virgin, who didst conceive without sinning, teach me how to sin without conceiving." 192 pages. . 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
