About This Item
Paris. Manuscript map. Pencil crayon and ink on thick Vidalon-Les-Annonay paper. 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches.

Carefully drawn map featuring Ile de la Cite in ancient times. Rue de la Juiverie is named after a large Jewish population that inhabited the street from the 5th to 7th centuries, and again from the 9th until the explusion of the Jews from France in 1183. The church labeled as "La Magdelaine", on the corner of Rue des Marmousets, was originally built as a synagogue in the 9th century and converted in the 12th century. Lovely yellow pencil shading and tidy labeling in ink gives the map an official look.
