About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. The Anatomy of Melancholy was first published in 1621, republished four times within the succeeding seventeen years, which are altered and extensive in form. The book is a medical context in which Burton uses his vast knowledge and learnings in the field of medicine to the topic of melancholia (melancholy), which nowadays is called as clinical depression.

The medical textbook is as much as a unique and extraordinary work of literary closely to scientific or philosophical content, Burton explains further on the subject. The Anatomy of Melancholy was used as the material reference for all human emotions and thoughts maybe examined, that the entire materials of a 17th-century library are guided into this aim.

Burton was right about writing the medical textbook, saying, ?I write of melancholy by being busy to avoid melancholy.? This work puzzled and entertained him, inspired himself by writing a wide variety of narratives and documentaries with footnotes and explanations. Some contents of the Anatomy of Melancholy include digestion, goblins, the geography of America, and all others.

The author?s verbalization about the topic is highly appreciated by his readers. The Anatomy is both hilarious and alarming to read. Its full title is ?The Anatomy of Melancholy, What it is: With all the Kinds, Causes, Symptomes, Prognostickes, and Several Cures of It. In Three Maine Partitions with their Several Sections, Members, and Subsections. Philosophically, Medicinally, Historically, Opened and Cut Up.

Burton defines melancholy as either a disposition or a habit. In disposition, it is changeable. In melancholy as a habit, it is fixed and hard to prevent from doing such habit. Melancholy is the state of being sad and depressed. One has the power of control over it, one may succeed otherwise he should be able to know the circumstances of being melancholic. The state of being happy is not measured by one?s actions.
