Blue cloth boards with black lettering on spine & drawing of Anatole on front cover; 4to; 32 pp. Clean and solid book with some toning to edges of boards; dust jacket has noticeable edgewear, one piece of tape to front cover, chip to top of rear panel and three chips to edge of spine panel; price-clipped. First edition (no additional printings listed) of this classic book illustrated by Paul Galdone. Caldecott Honor Book and the first of the 10-book series.

Synopsis

Eve Titus was the author of numerous bestselling and beloved children's books, including the Anatole books and many chapter books about a mouse detective--Basil of Baker Street. Ms. Titus pased away in 2002. Paul Galdone illustrated nearly three hundred books during his long career, many of which he also retold. His renditions of nursery tales such as The Little Red Hen , and Three Little Kittens have become classics. He illustrated nearly all of Ms. Titus' books, winning a Caldecott Honor award for both Anatole and Anatole and the Cat . Mr. Galdone passed away in 1986.
