Pp. xii, 304 pp., with 29 text illustrations of amphibians (fine line-drawings). Dark blue cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, original printed pale green wrappers bound in place, lg 8vo. This is van Kampen's most important work. It documents the amphibians of the Dutch East Indies today known as the island nation of Indonesia. According to Adler (vol. 2, pg. 133) it was written as a companion to Nelly de Rooij's two volume set 'Reptiles of the Indo-Australian Archipelago' (1915-1917). Van Kampen's work covers 47 genera and 256 species of frogs and caecilians. From the research collection of Illinois State University herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the front endpaper. Rare work.
