1865. Unbound. Very Good. Porcelain plate. Approximately 8" in diameter. Two chips to the rim not affecting the image, some wear, very good. The plate has an embossed alphabet around the inner rim, with a transfer image in brown in the center of the plate depicting a baseball game, with "American Sports" at the top of the image, and "Base Ball. Running to First Base" below the image. No back marks and undated, but consistent with German export ware of the period between 1865-1875. Very uncommon.

An amazing collection of 23 small 4" x 5" black and white photos of many of the 1983-84 New York Yankees baseball team that have been individually signed by them. The names of the players have been written on the bottom of the white margins. The players included are; RUDY MAY, DAVE RIGHETTI, JAY HOWELL, JOHN MONTEFUSCO, LOU PINELLA, DAVE WINFIELD, LARRY MILBOURNE, WILLIE RANDOLPH, ROY SMALLEY, DON BAYLOR, ANDRE ROBERTSON, BERT CAMPANERIS, KEN GRIFFEY, DALE MURRAY, RON GUIDRY, GRAIG NETTLES, GEORGE FRAZIER, MATT KEOUGH, RICH GOSSAGE, BOB SHIRLEY, SHANE RAWLEY, BILLY MARTIN AND YOGGI BERRA. A two-volume first edition of an account of the Long Expedition to the Rocky Mountains by expedition botanist and geologist Edwin James. Compiled from the notes of Major Stephen H. Long, Mr. T. Say, and other gentlemen of the party by Mr. James. This rather scarce set presents the account of the experiences of the Stephen H. Long expedition of 1819-1820, in which Long was sent to find the source of the Platte River in the Rocky Mountains. Lacks the separate accompanying oversize atlas which was issued in 1822 per Howes J.41, who remarks [the expedition was notable in that it supplemented] ". . .earlier discoveries of Pike and of Lewis and Clark, and pronouncing the plains region as nothing but a desert, incapable of cultivation!". --- In maroon half leather and marbled paper-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling, four raised bands to spines and marbled endpapers. --- A very nice set, with bright, mostly… Read More
