About This Item
1968 hardcover as pictured. This is one volume from a 45 book set, The American Negro - His History And Literature, republished in 1968 by Arno Press and the New York Times. A powerful and damning indictment of slavery as practiced in the American south. American Slavery As It Is is a reprint of the 1839 original by Reverend Theodore Dwight Weld. Ex-library with typical markings. Weld was a fervent opponent of slavery. With his wife and sister-in-law he collected the personal accounts and newspaper articles detailing the atrocities and cruelties of slavery presented here. Binding is firm. Black and white cloth boards show moderate wear. Edge of text block with black marking. A few pages of text have underlining and annotations but the book remains very readable. No dust jacket.
