James Bryce, 1st Viscount Bryce (1838-1922) was a British academic, jurist, historian and Liberal politician. He served as Chief Minister for Ireland and as Ambassador to the United States. Bryce is best known for his highly successful ambassadorship to the United States (1907–13) and for his study of U.S. politics, "The American Commonwealth," which remains a classic. These volumes are facsimilies of the edition of 1888, published by Macmillan and Co. in London and New York. .
