About This Item
1979. No Binding. Very Good +. Script for Miller's play, signed by him on the title page, and numbered (in separate hand) 65/200, presumably indicating this was limited to 200 copies. 102 pages. The play was first produced by the Harold Culman Theatre and opened at the Dockstreet Theatrei n Charleston SC on May 24, 1980 at the Spoleto Festival there. One of Miller's lesser known works , the play is about 1930s America during the Depression and based in part on Studs Terkel's Hard Times: An Oral History of the Great Depression. Its theme is the dissolution of the American Dream, and evocative of Miller's most famous work, Death of a Salesman. The play premiered on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre on November 11, 1980 and closed on November 30, 1980 after 12 performances and 11 previews. Since then it has been revived Off-Broadway and staged at the National Theatre in London but to mixed reviews at best. Thick blue paper covers, brad-bound, printed at Studio Duplicating Service in Manhattan.
