About This Item
New York: E.P. Dutton, 1968. First Edition. First Edition. One of 1500 copies printed. INSCRIBED by Andrew Sarris on the front endpaper. Very uncommon to find signed.
The book that introduced the key French New Wave concept of auteur theory to America-a line of thinking that places a film director (rather than the producer, studio, screenwriters, or actors) as the author of a film. The publication sparked an immediate and long-lasting debate between Sarris and film critic Pauline Kael, a topic which continues to engender debate to this day.
Fine in a Near Fine, lightly rubbed dust jacket.
