Original quarter black cloth over marbled boards with spine stamped in gold. [23.2 cm.] A very good copy. Hint of rubbing to head of spine, corners a little worn. Leaves starting to tone, but clean. In glassine dust jacket, perhaps original (chipped at spine ends; short tear on front panel). FIRST EDITION. Printed list of books in series laid-in. Printed invitation for 1954 lecture series by Fredson Bowers, sponsored by the Rosenbach Fellowship in Bibliography, also laid-in. Discusses American books and pamphlets of 1755 in three essays: "Politics and Propaganda," "The Western Expansion; Religion, Education, and Science," and "History and Literature." Lengthy appendices provide detailed bibliographic information on ten significant imprints.
