New York: The Modern Library. Very Good+ in Very Good dust jacket. 1935. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Stated First Modern Library Edition, 1935 (confirmed by number of titles on verso of jacket). A. Edward Newton's famous recounting of his adventures as he compiled an astounding collection of rare books. The industrialist's collection numbered about 10,000 items at the time of his death in 1940. With dozens of black & white illustrations including photos, manuscript, leaf & letter facsimiles and drawings scattered throughout. Includes a new introduction by Mr. Newton for the Modern Library. Volume wrapped in jacket with reproduction of Mr. Newton's Temple Bar bookplate to front panel. --- In Toledano spine 7 / green balloon cloth / limp boards / gilt cover torchbearer / gilt spine titling with interconnected "ML" device / green topstain / orange Kent endpapers / jacket style e, verso lists 239 titles in ML catalog. ML #164.2. --- With prior owner Jean Chalmers' bookplate affixed to ffep, a spine reading crease and a hint of sunning to cloth, volume is otherwise clean, unmarked and tightly-bound. Dust jacket with original $.95 flap price, small tears to extremities but mostly intact and in removable mylar protector. Note; This item was only offered by the Modern Library for five years, from 1935 to 1940.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; (17), x-xxvii, 373 pages .

A fascinating book if you are a book collector or becoming one. The b/w pictures in the book are great. Haven't finished reading it as yet but I am very pleased.
