New York: Harcourt Brace, 1953. Very good plus in very good jacket.. Signed later printing of Sandburg's autobiographical account of his childhood in Galesburg, IL, inscribed to two booksellers. This copy is inscribed to Lillian Bos and Harry Dicken Ross, early 20th-century San Francisco bohemian scene booksellers and authors of THE BIG SUR TRILOGY. 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original green cloth, silver lettering to front, spine. In original unclipped ($5.00; with pencil price correction below publisher's printed number) illustrated dust jacket. 445, [1] pages. Inscribed by Sandburg in year of publication to half-title page: "Lillian and Harry / as ever / Carl / 1953." Jacket with moderate edgewear, a couple short closed tears; significant reinforcement to verso along edges and folds. Some fading to top part of cloth.

Born in 1878, Carl Sandburg grew with America. As a boy he played, studied, and matured in Galesburg, Illinois. Sandburg's reminiscence delivers a nostalgic view of small-town life and an invaluable perspective on American history. Index.
