About This Item
London: Lutterworth Press, 1959. First UK Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Sendak, Maurice. 172 pages. First British edition. Ex school library. There is a handwritten accession number of the head of the front end paper, as well as a library stamp. The stamp is sadly repeated on pp 19,45, 89,139,153 right in the middle of the page. It's ugly but does not impact the reading. The fore-edge is foxed. It all sounds worse than it actually is, as overall it is a clean and solid copy, unmarked were it not for the wretched stamp. Maurice Sendak's sketches are sharp and bright. "Along Came a Dog is a children's novel by Meindert DeJong, and Maurice Sendak. It was a Newbery Medal honor book in 1959. It tells a story about a friendship of a little red hen and a homeless dog who appoints himself as her protector. A big black dog came to the farm in search of a home. The dog was humble and lonesome. The hen was cocky and secure. A strange and wonderful friendship grew between them." (Wikipedia)
