New York: Random House, 1946. Hardcover. Fine. First Thus, 2 vols in card slipcase. An attractive edition of the Alices with the original Tenniel illustrations coloured by Fritz Kredel. Identified at the colophon as "Special Edition" - these may have been issued by the original Book of the Month Club either as a gift or as a special purchase for subscribers. In any event not so common these days and they are very pretty books indeed. Lovely clean condition, minor colour fading to the backstrip of Through the Looking Glass. 1/4 cloth with decorated, illustrated boards and blue top-edges, pp. 150 & pp. 165. In a plain card slipcase which may be missing a tipped-on label. Fine.

Synopsis

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
