About This Item

New York, New York: McLoughlin Brothers, 1912. First Thus . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Tenniel, John. Lovely vintage single volume that contains both "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" & "Through the Looking-Glass,''with the 42 original pen-and-ink illustrations by John Tenniel throughout the 132 pages of text, including a gorgeous full-color frontispiece. No date, but old gift inscription dated "Christmas 1912" places it right around the turn of the 20th century. A small quarto (8.5" x 10.5"), this hardcover book has tan cloth-covered boards decorated in red, black & white to front cover with black script to spine. Condition is Good, with significant rubbing to extremities, heaviest at all corners & both ends of spine with cloth fraying. Light surface soiling & smudges to random pages. In "Alice" only, there is evidence that the former owner had colored some of the illustrations, then erased, with some shadow remaining on a few; none of this is "Looking Glass." Aside from the gift inscription in back & name in pen to top of frontis, NO other writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Former owner's bookplate in rear as well. Text block is secure, stitched binding intact, but loosening; both front & rear hinges are cracked, exposing underlying webbing. Vertical tear to page 27-28. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (PST); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
