About This Item

New York: Random House , 1973 . First edition. Loose Pages, Articles. Very Good. 22" by 8.5". None. An scarce-to-see Galley Copy of Dorothy Norman's biographical work on close friend and fellow photographer, Alfred Stieglitz. A Galley Copy; an advanced copy of the work sent prior to the final proofreading. Comprised of page entitled 'Galley 2' running to 'Galley 124', with writing to the recto of the page only. 'Galley 2' to 'Galley 56' are stapled, with '57' to '87' also stapled, while '85' to '99' are disbound, and '100' to '124' are stapled, but a little strained. Written by American photographer and writer, Dorothy Norman, who had a close relationship with fellow photographer, Alfred Stieglitz, often working together on the promotion of modern art. Norman draws upon her relationship with Stieglitz, as well as incorporating some of his own personal words, to present a warm image of this prominent figure in the field of photography and modern art in America. The publisher's original proof papers, stapled together in sections from 'Galley' 2-56, 57-84 and 100-124, with 'Galley' 85-99 disbound. Pages are folded horizontally. Externally, very good, with light edge wear. Two labels to the front cover, with one label slightly torn and the other label containing an ink and pencil annotation. Text has faded slightly to the front page. Internally, light creasing and the odd closed tear to the extremities of some of the pages. The section from 'Galley' 100-124 is slightly strained, with the staple starting. Very Good
