Bologna: Bernia for Tebaldinus, 1645. 4th edition. Full leather binding. very good. Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605), Italian natural scientist and physician. From 1553 professor in Bologna, where he founded a Botanical Garden and a Museum. He started producing a very extensive summary of natural sciences, but published only four of the volumes himself. He employed writers and woodcutters and prepared almost 600 publications, fully knowing that most would be published after his death. The 'Opera omnia'. was published from 1599-1668 in 13 volumes. This is the 4th edition of one of the volumes, published in 1645.

Bernia for Tebaldinus 1645. Folio, (14" x 10", 35,5 X 24cm) With engraved title and approx. 130 mainly full page woodcuts. 716 pages., 8 sheets.1 page with woodcut printer´s device. Later full leather binding with gilded spine in 6 compartments (small damage. and missing text). Ebert 388 note - Fourth Bolognese Edition, by Ambrosinus posthumously edited. In contrast to the copies of the Frankfurt reprint,that combines the images of several animals on a page, this edition contains magnificent full page. woodcuts. - P. 493/94 skipped in pagination. -
Some scuffing/staining to the binding, slightly bumped corners. On the last 15 sheets small damages to the lower edge, not affecting text. title cut close in lower margin. Pages very clean and undamaged.
