New Haven, Connecticut: Yale University Library, 1968. 2 volumes only [Vols 1 & 2]. Near Fine condition in a Very Good original slipcase. Each volume is protected by a removable clear-plastic sleeve. Spines are uniformly sunned but only slightly. Leather spine labels are a little chipped at the edge (NO loss of printing). Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked - apparently seldom if ever read. NO foxing. 1968. First Edition. Limited to 500 sets. Volume One: Printed Books 1472 - 1623; and Volume Two: Printed Books 1624 - 1790. [Does NOT include the Manuscript volumes 3 & 4 which were not published until 1977]. Profusely illustrated with title page and other reproductions. Meticulous descriptions and historical context are provided for 160 important Alchemy and the Occult books from the Mellon collection. Cross referenced to nearly 60 standard authorities, including Caillet, Duveen, Ferguson, Kraus (cat 62), Sarton, Thorndike, STC, etc. This lavishly produced work weighs over 12 pounds. Uniformly bound in the original two tone cloth (blue with oatmeal spines), stamped in bright gold over black leather label on the spines. The two-compartment slipcase is bound in matching blue cloth with printed paper labels on the spine and front cover. Oversize Hardcover. 9.75" wide by 13" tall by 3.75" thick. This large, extremely heavy 2 volume set will require extra postage for Priority and International shipments.
