About This Item

London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1999. 1st Edition Assumed 1st. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. B&W maps, photos, sketches, drawings. CONDITION: Gently perused on shelf, but not quite perfect, 1998-9 Weidenfeld & Nicolson (London) hardcover (black boards) & dust jacket ), first edition, assumed first printing. Problem: Light edge wear to dust jacket top spine and at folds PLUS a pale "scratch" back DJ panel. Better than it sounds. B&W maps, photos, sketches, drawings. The end pages detail the route the Albans took from Scotland to the Hudson Bay. CONTENT: This book presents a portrait of the Albans, a seafaring tribe who originated in the country now known as Scotland. Battered by repeated Celtic, Norse and Roman invasions, the Albans fled west, first to Iceland, then to Greenland and finally across the Atlantic to Canada. "Excellent book that gives a unique perspective of the Norse Vikings 'discovery' of the New World. I highly recommend this book so that students get a more rounded perspective of the real history of the discovery of North America by Europeans.
