No Place of Publication.: No publisher.. No date. Ca. 1897-1898.. Wall size map, image 23 1/2 x 23 3/4 inches on sheet 27 1/4 x 20 inches. Map was folded, with creases and tears, now archivally mounted on linen with many small areas of infill; presents very well. This map shows two transportation routes available from Portland Oregon - one to St. Michaels in Norton Sound and then up the Yukon River, the other up the inland passage to Sitka, Juneau, Skaguay and Dyea and Chilkoot and White Passes. An inset map at lower left shows the Transcontinental Routes from Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans to Portland, Oregon. Dawson City (on the map) was named in January 1897, but news of the big Klondike gold strike (and Dawson City) did not reach the world until that summer when the first gold came out to Portland and San Francisco. Almost immediately publishers and outfitters began to print equipment lists and how-to-get-there maps. .
