About This Item

Toronto: Anansi, 1968. First edition. Inscribed by Ginsberg to Gregory Corso and Eila Kokkinen. In publisher's wrappers. With notes in ink by Ginsberg. Cover dusted, creased with a small tear, otherwise in fine condition.. First edition. Inscribed by Ginsberg to Gregory Corso and Eila Kokkinen. In publisher's wrappers. [10], 38 p.

First edition, association copy, inscribed to Gregory Corso and Eila Kokkinen.

Airplane Dreams was published after the occasion of Ginsberg's visit to Toronto to read at Hart House the University of Toronto's student club. George (then Doug) Fetherling acted as Ginsberg's handler during this trip and convinced Ginsberg to leave behind journal material that was eventually published in this booklet.

The present copy was inscribed by Ginsberg to Gregory Corso, the fellow Beat poet, and lifelong friend, probably at Ginsberg's farm ("To Gregory Corso out in the country together Summer 1968 with old love Allen"), however apparently Corso forget about the book, thus Ginsberg reinscribed it to another friend, Eila Kokkinen ("Gregory left it here, so it's yours Eila - Allen Aug 26, '69"), who at the time worked as an art curator at MoMA.

The second text "Understand That This is a Dream"  is annotated by Ginsberg, a large part of the text on pp. 6-7 is "transferred" to p. 9, and in the colophon, Doug Fetherling's name circled also in Ginsberg's hand.
