New York, New York: Simon and Shuster, 1966. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Photography by Robert Yellin. NF/VG/2nd prntng 1966. Some minor wear to jacket, but otherwise, quite a solid copy. The jacket has a nick at the heel of the spine, a small tear at the top of the spine, and a little wear to both top corners--splits. Minor soiling to jacket- some light foxing to a preliminary page--now sportin' a nice new mylar sleeve. Book's cloth covered panels are clean, binding is tight, no writing or marking inside or out. 256pp., many full page photos. words and scores of many songs, along with information about the daily life on Johns Island in the 1960s. Guy Carawan is best known as the folk singer that brought the song, "We Shall Overcome" to the Civil Rights Movement. The photographer was Robert Yellin, a member of the Greenbriar Boys, a well known folk group. Alan Lomax is a distinguished collector of folk music, and is responsible for the revival of many African American Spiritual and Gospel(and work)songs sung for forever in the South.
