About This Item
New York: Whitney Museum of America, 1992. First edition. Hardcover. Very good to near fine condition. Large Quarto. 188pp. Original gray cloth with silver lettering on cover and spine in original decorative dustjacket, blue lettering on spine. Light off white endpapers. Frontispiece photograph. "With 100 illustrations, including 60 color plates, and three authoritative essays, this book is the first to deal with the full scope of Agnes Martin's art. The essays place her work in the context of American and European 20th-century art and culture. Agnes Martin's paintings, constructions, and works on paper provide a key link between the chromatic abstraction of artists such as Mark Rotko and Barnett Newman, her generational and ideological peers, and the Minimalist vocabulary of the 1960s." (Publisher). The section with Martins' selected writings is printed to light blue paper. Profusely illustrated with in-text b/w reproductions of Martin's work and sixty color plates. Light wear along edges of dustjacket and minor sunning along edges of binding. Front free endpaper with small printed label containing the publishing data for this title. Interior in fine condition.
