About This Item

N.Y.: Triangle Books, 1941. First Triangle Books edition, January 1941, so stated (originally published by Houghton, 1914). Triangle #167. Blue cloth shows light soiling along edges, corners bumped, pages age toned (as is usual) in dust jacket with rubbing to folds, shallow loss at spine ends and flap corners, lightly chipped along edges, lightly soiled at rear panel. A surprisingly good copy for a Triangle book. Fresh out of the hospital and low on funds, a young doctor decides to take a long sea voyage to restore his health. He signs on as a steward on board a millionaire's yacht. Then, one hot and humid summer night, the voyage starts to become a nightmare. One of the ship's officers is thrown overboard. Another one is killed with an axe. The killer strikes again and again, and the rest of the passengers begin to panic. Only the young doctor remains calm and tries to solve the murders, but to do that he will have to stay alive, something that won't be easy.. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Book.

Synopsis

Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876-1958) was an American author of hundreds of short stories, poems, travelogues and special articles. Some of her very successful books and plays, such as "The Bat" (1920) were adapted for movies. While many of her books were best-sellers, critics were most appreciative of her murder mysteries. She also coined the famous phrase "The butler did it."
