No illustrations, softbound in 9x7.5 inch glossy decorated wraps, front cover slightly curled, a tiny smudge to gutter of last leaf of text, a sound unmarked and otherwise clean copy. Criticism on a number of writers, mostly modern (from the Harlem Renaissance to the present), with sections on slave narratives, Wheatley, Dunbar and Du Bois, and contributions from a number of well-known authors (Barbara Christian, Arnold Rampersand, Henry Louis Gates, etc.). Sections on Baldwin and Lorde are included.
