Synopsis
The Clan of the Cave Bear is a historical fiction novel by Jean M. Auel about prehistoric times set somewhat before the extinction of the Neanderthal race after 600,000 years as a species, and at least 10-15,000 years after 'Homo sapiens' remains are documented and dated in Europe as a viable second human species.

This is the start of a hands-down excellent series. Auel writes with intense detail the landscape and lives of how the earth might have been in pre history. She is coming out with the last book in March 2011. There is rape in this book and sexual scenes throughout the series, for those sensitive to such material. However, the rage and passion go alongside with tenderness and sensibility. Ayla is the reader's eyes to this world. She is very observant and very able, so you won't get left behind!
