London: Ward, Lock & Co.. Fair. Hardcover. 340 + ads p. 21 cm. No publication or copyright date. Square binding in green, cloth-covered boards with colour paste-down illustration on upper board. Binding is somewhat loose and some signatures are sprung, exposing binding mull. Corners and spine ends are worn through and fraying. Small tear to spine gutter on upper board. All edges rubbed. Both boards have a little rubbing and soil. Scuffing on front free endpaper. Frontispiece is missing. Inside pages have foxing and occasional soil, although the plates are generally clean and unmarked. 3" edge tears to the first two leaves of text. A reading copy, reflected in my price. An early 20th century edition of over fifty of Aesop's fables retold by Blanche Wilder and illustrated with 48 colour plates by Golden Age artist Harry Rountree. (missing frontispiece plate). .
