About This Item

Hardbound black cloth boards with very good gold gilt title and author in border also in gold gilt. Spine also includes title and author in gold gilt with spots of wear on each of the four corners of the back strip and wear along the rear gutter. Boards are in very nice condition with some rubbing, very slight blemishes inside the debossed frame on the front board. All corners show wear and bumping. Spine is firm, no cracking to the endpapers but the front free endpaper has been removed. Text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Age tanning throughout. The front endpaper and page following the front free endpaper (that was removed) have numerous smudges and a previous owner name. Interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or other previous owner marks. Fully illustrated with black & white photographs, technical line drawings and fold-out charts. 403 pages plus Chapter XXI Glossary of Aeronautical Words plus a three-section foldout of a Blimp or Scouting Dirigible. John B. Rathbun was an Aeronautical Engineer, Consulting Aeronautical, Chicago Aero Works; Chief Engineer, Automotive Engineering Company (he was also the author of "Practical Hand Book of Gas, Oil and Steam Engines). Formally Instructor in Aviation and Machine Design, Chicago Technical College. In this small volume is "A Comprehensive Illustrated Manual of Instruction for Aeroplane Constructors, Aviator, Aero-Mechanics, Flight Officers and Students. Adapted Either for Schools or Home Study."
