About This Item
London, André Deutsch, 1961. . First UK edition, first impression; presentation copy inscribed by the author; 8vo; publisher's black boards, titles to spine gilt, with the dust jacket; light tape residue to the endpapers, from an old jacket protector, spine rather dull but a very good copy in the frayed and torn dust jacket rather faded at the spine.
A fine association copy with the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'To Francis Wyndham after five minutes of waiting to find a sufficiently dry metaphor about the Queen I am reduced to signing this as The Baron Norman Oct 1961'. The recipient was the writer and publisher who was Mailer's editor at Deutsch at the time of publication.
