Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Previous owner's name in pencil on front fly leaf. Both volumes: Half gilt-stamped brown leather with marbled paper over boards, small "John Stuart Groves Ex-Libris" plates on front paste-downs, each volume contains several illustrations; Volume I: pp. (xiii), 514; Volume II: pp. (vi), 517. Appendix. Both volumes: Covers worn along edges and at corners and spine ends, end papers toned/offset, scattered small spots, Volume I: pages 311-311 have repaired tears on lower blank margin.
