London, George G. Harrap, 1929.. FIRST TRADE EDITION 1929, 4to, 260 x 220 mm, 10¼ x 8½ inches, brown cloth backed orange boards with black lettering and vignette to upper cover, 45 pages. The rectos have delightful coloured illustrations by Wells with the story printed in a facsimile of his handwriting, each faces the same text in letterpress. Charming story about a small boy who helps out a Proud Rich Man and the Present he gives to Tommy. Faint browning to endpapers and half-title, a few fox spots on half-title, no inscriptions. A very good plus clean tight copy in very good gold and black DUSTWRAPPER (dw: not price clipped, 10 mm (½") missing at tail of spine, 15 mm (¾") missing at head of spine, 2 small splits to lower hinge, small chips to corners, 4 small closed edge tears, a tiny chip to lower edge of upper panel, inner flaps tarnished, still legible).
