London, 1848. xii,322pp. plus engraved portrait frontispiece. Half title. Illus. Original brown blind- embossed cloth, modern rebacking, modern paper label. Minor shelf wear. 20th-century bookplate on front pastedown, long gift inscription on front free endpaper with amusing angling illustration, slightly over- opened at the titlepage, light toning. Very good. A scarce account of Lanman's adventures in the Adirondacks and Catskills, as well as the Saguenay River in Quebec. Previously published the same year in Philadelphia as A TOUR TO THE RIVER SAGUENAY, though this is the first appearance of the engraved portrait frontispiece. Also includes a handful of engraved vignettes in the text, featuring locations such as Lake Horicon, the ruins of Fort Ticonderoga, Franconia Notch, the Falls of Montmorency, Cape Trinity, and more.
