"From the author" in ink at the top of the front wrapper. Josiah Quincy (1772-1864) was President of Harvard University from 1829-1845. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1805-1813 and the mayor of Boston from 1823-1828. Afro-Americana 8584; Sabin 67196.
