11 x 7 -1/4 inches, 2 original pages [ 1 leaf], with a complete Act and Law regarding how those found to be poor in the town or village. Light age-toning, some foxing, otherwise very good condition.
Circa 1780. Believed to be part of the general laws of Massachusetts
An Overseer or Overseer's of the Poor will be established. That the children of the poor will not remain idle nor misspend their time. They will be taken to learn a decent calling. The young boy will remain with his overseer until he reaches the age of 21, and all females will remain with her overseer until she reaches the age of 18. During this time, they will be fed and clothed and the funds will be given by the town or village so as not to put a burden on their overseer's. These young boys and girls will learn a trade, to be an apprentice or a servant.
