About This Item
12mo leather 306,[2] pp. Binding worn at edges and spine, covers slightly bent. Foxing throughout, but text is quite legible. Bownas (1676-1763) made two trips to America. The first was in 1702 (see page 91), and the second was in 1726 (see page 214). Along the way he had a public dispute with George Keith and William Bradford, and ended up doing some time in jail because of it. Book contains descriptive material on encounters with Indians, and actually includes some commentary on the Indian captivity of Elizabeth Hanson (230-232pp.) According to Sabin, it also includes an amusing account of the Labadies, a Shaker-like community. This work originally published in London in 1756, appeared in several editions through 1846.
