Original buff wrappers printed in black and red, edges uncut. Fine. Brentano's Edition (copyright February 19, 1900). Decorated with grey floral borders. [8] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Kipling's poem The Absent-Minded Beggar was published in the (London) Daily Mail on October 31, 1899, as part of an appeals for funds for the families of British servicemen serving in the Boer War. The Brentano's edition is the probable first American edition (Stewart & Yeats cite an undated New Bedford, Mass., edition as another possible contender). The poem was not published collected form until 1914, when it appeared in vol. XXII of the Bombay Edition. Sir Arthur Sullivan set it to music. Livingston 224; Stewart & Yeats 214
