About This Item
New York: Harcourt Brace, 1939. First Trade Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Large octavo, 4 volumes. A crisp, clean set, about fine, with a neat pencilled owner's name on the front free endpaper of volume I. All four volumes are first printings of the trade edition (which followed a signed limited edition). In the publisher's slipcase, which is sound and sturdy, but shows significant dampstaining to the bottom edge. The thick slipcase has mercifully spared the books from whatever unfortunate episode led to the stain, as the books are completely unaffected. Though unsightly, it's only noticeable when turned upside down. As such, still a gift-quality set for the person who can live with it. A landmark study of Abraham Lincoln in his finest hour, authored by one of his best and best-known biographers.
Synopsis
The story of Lincoln's life from his inauguration in 1861 to his death and funeral in 1865. Awarded the Pulitzer Prize in History, 1940.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
