Following the death of Abraham Lincoln, his widow Mary Todd, befriended a medium. Mrs. Lincoln invited Nettie Maynard to the White House for a consultation upon the death of her son. Maynard wrote a book recounting these events, as well as others including spirit poems, and the role of mediumship. Maynard describes strange phenomena, discovery of spirits, spiritualism, and séances in the Civil War, as well as a thorough description of Lincoln as President.
