FIRST EDITION 1883, French text, 320 x 250 mm, 12¾ x 10 inches, silver/grey cloth with coloured floral decoration and black lettering to upper cover, spine plain, all edges red, endpapers pale green, 74 pages + colophon page. Beautiful coloured frontispiece and 7 colour plates by Carl Gehrts, red ruled frame to all text pages. Spine very slightly faded, neat English inscription dated January 1884 on front endpaper, contents clean, 2 inner joints cracked but binding tight and firm. A very good plus copy. A wonderful fairy tale about the love of two children brought up as brother and sister, the one captured by water sprites, the other by dwarves. After many years apart they are eventually reunited.
