Sofcover edition: Light sprikled foxing, and a few spots to wrappers; moderate foxing to title page. Hardcover edition fine. ; Both of the two issues: Original light orange cloth lettered in black in fine condition; origianal printed stapled wrappers in very good conditon. Both with two photographic plates and folding map. Both maps are fine. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 49 pages; First edition in English of Zimmermann's account of Cook's important third voyage, based on the Mannheim, 1781, edition. Alexander Turnbull Library Bulletin No. 2. Heinrich Zimmermann (1741–1805) was one of the few Germans who participated in James Cook’s voyages of discovery. As a sailor in the third voyage (1776 to 1779) , he kept a journal that later became the basis for his account Reise um die Welt, which was translated into English and later published as Account of the Third Voyage of Captain Cook. Although sailors on Cook’s voyages were supposed to hand their journals over to the Admiralty upon return, Zimmermann managed to conceal his notes and published them afterwards. .
