About This Item
Harcourt, Brace, & World, 1968. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Association copy, inscribed by Udall on the front free endpaper: "Best wishes from Stewart Udall at Mercersburg, PA, April 1988." Just above that inscription is the ownership signature of Maurice K. Goddard, who spent 24 years as Sercteray of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (1955-1979), creating 24 new State Parks during his tenure, adding 130,000 acres to the system. He thus is justly known as the "Patriarch of Pennsylvania State Parks." A nice association in light of Udall's conservation emphasis as Secretary of the Interior and afterward. Very near fine book with just a little rubbing to edges of blue cloth boards; in a very good jacket with light rubbing and a little soiling, some minor wear to corners and spine. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
