About This Item

Pittsburgh: Trinity Court Studio, 1925. Hardcover. Very good. Folio, 17 x 15 inches, brown cloth stamped in gilt on front cover, with 9 photos on paper measuring 13.5 x 9.5 inches, the images themselves measuring 9 x 6.5 inches, showing the 7 judges individually plus two group photos. Photos appear to be signed faintly in pencil by R. Johnson. On the brown pages on which these photos are mounted, the individual judges are identified in Conté crayon. Very good, with 1921 certificate broadside from the American Flag House and Betsy Ross Memorial Association declaring Porter a member in good standing (14 x 11 inches, somewhat spotty and soiled). William David Porter (1850-1930) was admitted to the Allegheny County Bar in 1872 and served as District Attorney for Allegheny County from 1884 to 1890. From 1891 to 1898 he was a judge in the Court of Common Pleas and as such adjudicated some of the trials resulting from the Homestead Strike of 1892. in 1898 he rose to the Superior Court and was the presiding judge at the time of his death in 1930. Very good and quite uncommon.
